Strength Development
Our programs develop lower-body, upper-body and trunk strength through progressive resistance training. The objective is to improve the athlete's ability to produce and control force.
Off-Court Tennis Performance Training for Junior, Collegiate and Professional Players
"Build the Athlete. Let Tennis Express It."
Off-court tennis training focuses on developing the physical capabilities that allow players to meet the demands of their sport. While technical tennis practice develops strokes, tactical decisions and sport-specific skills, physical preparation addresses qualities such as strength, power, acceleration, braking capacity, mobility and the ability to tolerate repeated physical demands. At Costa Performance, we integrate strength training for tennis players, athletic development, movement assessment and individualized conditioning into programs designed around the athlete's goals, training history and competitive schedule.
Our programs develop lower-body, upper-body and trunk strength through progressive resistance training. The objective is to improve the athlete's ability to produce and control force.
We develop acceleration and movement capabilities through structured physical training that considers force production, coordination and movement efficiency.
Tennis players must repeatedly slow down, absorb forces and reposition. Our programs address deceleration training, eccentric strength, landing mechanics and change-of-direction capacity.
Training may include resistance exercises, plyometrics and medicine-ball exercises designed to develop power. Exercise selection depends on the athlete's individual goals.
We consider the interaction between available range of motion, strength, control and sporting demands. Programs include targeted mobility work and progressive movement challenges.
Our programs develop appropriate aerobic and anaerobic capacities while managing total workload from tennis practice, gym training and competition.
At Costa Performance, objective assessments help guide physical preparation. We use performance testing alongside coaching observations and the athlete's training history.
Using VALD ForceDecks and Kinvent force plate technology, we examine jump performance, force production and neuromuscular capabilities.
Strength testing helps identify current physical capacities and provides information for training progression.
Tools such as Output Sports allow us to monitor movement velocity and selected performance variables during resistance exercises.
Short-distance sprint assessments help evaluate acceleration performance and monitor changes following training.
Assess. Train. Reassess. Adapt.
Long-Term Athletic Development Starts With Individualization
Junior tennis players require training that considers more than chronological age or competitive ranking. Our junior tennis performance training in Boca Raton focuses on developing foundational strength, movement competency, acceleration, power and physical confidence.
Collegiate and professional tennis players face demanding practice schedules, frequent travel, tournaments and the need to maintain physical performance across a competitive season. At Costa Performance, we adapt strength and conditioning programs to the athlete's competition calendar, physical capacities and performance objectives.
Appropriate physical preparation can help athletes develop strength and movement capacity to better tolerate the repeated demands tennis places on the lower extremities, trunk, shoulders and upper limbs. Athletes recovering from injury may require coordination with their licensed healthcare providers and medical team.
We do not promise that any training program can prevent injuries. Injury risk is influenced by multiple factors.

Sports Biomechanics & Tennis Performance
Cassiano Costa, PhD, brings experience in sports biomechanics and physical preparation for competitive athletes. His approach emphasizes understanding the demands of the sport, evaluating physical capabilities and selecting training methods that address the individual athlete's needs. At Costa Performance, science is used to help make better decisions.
Tennis lessons focus on technical skills and on-court performance. Tennis performance training develops physical qualities such as strength, speed, power, mobility, deceleration and conditioning. Costa Performance specializes in physical preparation, not technical tennis lessons.
Appropriately supervised resistance training can be introduced during childhood when the athlete can follow instructions and perform exercises safely. The program should consider physical development, coordination, experience and individual readiness.
Strength training can improve physical capacities relevant to tennis. However, improvements in gym performance do not automatically translate into better match results. Effective preparation requires considering how physical development supports the demands of the sport.
Not every tennis player needs the same resistance-training intensity. Exercise selection and progression should be individualized based on the athlete's goals and current capacities.
Training frequency depends on age, experience, goals, tennis practice volume and competition schedule. The goal is to balance physical preparation with tennis demands and recovery.
Yes. Costa Performance uses VALD ForceDecks, Kinvent force plate systems and Output Sports alongside physical performance tests to evaluate athletic capabilities and guide training decisions.
Yes. Communication with tennis coaches is an important part of our approach. Coordinating physical preparation with technical training helps create a more integrated athlete-development process.
